Big defeat for Erdogan in rerun of Istanbul mayoral election

From Morning Report, 8:17 am on 24 June 2019

Turkey's ruling party has lost control of Istanbul after what's turned out to be an embarrassing rerun of the city's mayoral election.

Opposition candidate Ekrem Imamoglu won a surprise victory in March but President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's ruling AK party cancelled the result after complaints of irregularities.

Results are now in and Mr Imamoglu's original 13,000 vote win has become a landslide win by nearly 800,000 votes.
