Online extremism high on agenda at G20

Curbing the spread of violent extremism on the internet will be high on the agenda at the G20 summit in Japan this weekend, as frustration grows over tech companies being slow to act in the wake of the livestream of the Christchurch attacks.

Japan's Shinzo Abe, who set the agenda, was one of the leaders at the Christchurch Call summit in Paris in May, hosted by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and French President Emmanual Macron.

The call is a commitment by governments and tech companies to prevent terrorist and violent extremist content from being shared online.
