NZ tracking high for construction deaths - WorkSafe

From Morning Report, 8:18 am on 1 July 2019

Workplace construction deaths are at their highest level in at least a decade.

Eleven people have died while working on building sites and while undertaking roadworks so far this year - that's more than any full calendar year since 2009, when 19 people died in construction.

Six of the 11 fatalities this year have involved vehicles, while four have been caused by falls from heights.

The chief executive of WorkSafe, Nicole Rosie, says the numbers are alarming.
