Disappointment at delay on LGBTQI protections in New Zealand law

The Human Rights Commission is disappointed the government is not moving faster to provide explicit legal protection for trans and gender diverse people.

In January the United Nation's Human Right's Council made almost 200 recommendations for New Zealand to improve its human rights record.

Among them were specific recommendations for New Zealand to improve the rights of LGBTQI communities.

The government says change will come but not straight away.
