Victoria University rebrand riles name-change opponents

From Morning Report, 7:50 am on 10 July 2019

Victoria University of Wellington ran into a lot of flak when it said it wanted a new name. But ultimately it wasn't the public outcry that ensured the name would say - the Education Minister Chris Hipkins vetoed a change.

The university instead opted for a 'rebrand' and it's now unveiled a new logo. It shows its new Māori name, Te Herenga Waka and in very large letters, the word 'Wellington'.

The words 'Victoria University of Wellington' are still there, but they're very small.

Gwynn Compton started the petition to stop Victoria University's name change.

He joins Corin Dann in the studio with his response.
