Conservation Minister slams Westland for landfill response

The Conservation Minister has slammed the Westland District Council for not having the cash to sort out the litter-ridden Fox River and warns the Department of Conservation shouldn't be relied on to clean up the mess.

But the district's mayor says its 6.000 ratepayers shouldn't be lumped with the cost of dealing with a disused landfill dating back to 1945 that was Government owned.
