Appointment of Christchurch city council ceo a win for city

From Morning Report, 7:52 am on 12 July 2019

A local government reporter from Birmingham says the appointment of Dawn Baxendale to the Christchurch City Council is a win for the city.

The Birmingham City Council chief executive is leaving to take up the top job in Christchurch after just over a year in the post.

Concerns were raised about the $500,000 salary being offered to Ms Baxendale, in the face of a damning report into the performance of Birmingham's local authority.

First to report on the story was Heather Jameson, editor of English journal The MJ. She speaks to Corin Dann about Ms Baxendale's tenure at Birmingham City Council.
