Small towns given boost for quake-prone buildings

From Morning Report, 7:35 am on 15 July 2019

The government is changing the way it manages earthquake-prone buildings in small towns, to take some of the cost off owners.

At the moment strengthening work has to be done if alterations cost more than 25% of the building's value.

But under the new changes seismic work will only need to be done if the renovations cost more than $150,000 dollars.

Feilding's one of the towns that's been struggling to afford to fix their buildings.

The Mayor of the Manawatu District Council is Helen Worboys.
