Damage already done by 13 Reasons Why suicide scene

A mental health expert says he isn't surprised by research connecting Netflix show "13 Reasons Why" with increased suicides.

The series depicts the lead up and the aftermath of the suicide of the 17 year old character Hannah Baker, sparking concerns there would be copy cat behaviour. N

ow a new study has reveals the show was associated with an almost 30 percent increase in suicide rates among young Americans in the month following the show's release in 2017.

The Mental Health Foundation's Chief Executive Shaun Robinson told RNZ reporter, Charlotte Cook, it was the right decision to remove the graphic scene of the character killing herself, but the damage has already been done.
