VIDEO PREMIERE: The Adults - 'Bloodlines'

From RNZ Music, 7:55 am on 18 May 2018

Shihad's Jon Toogood is back with his collaboration project The Adults. We're super excited about the new single, which features two of our favourite vocalists right now – Estère and JessB.

‘Bloodlines’ is a battlecry for love from a female perspective. It draws inspiration from a Sudanese tradition known as Aghani Al-Banat, in which female musicians express resistance to patriarchy, tradition, and narrowly defined gender roles.

The video is directed by Shae Sterling, who's well-known for his visually stunning vids for the likes of Stan Walker, Maisey Rika, and TEEKS. It's shot in West Auckland's Piha and Karekare beaches.

Jon says the track's 'based around a traditional Sudanese wedding song which talks about the women of the bride-to-be's tribe gathering together to support her as she begins her ceremonial bridal dance. It’s music to empower the bride and lend her strength.”
