VIDEO PREMIERE: Tom Cunliffe's 'I've Been Bitten By An Old White Man'

From RNZ Music, 5:04 pm on 7 August 2018

Here's your first look at Auckland folk musician Tom Cunliffe's latest video, which he animated himself! 'I've Been Bitten By An Old White Man' was inspired by a photo of the Trump administration legislating on women's healthcare.

Tom says of his video: "The idea of the song stemmed from seeing a picture of Trump’s administration legislating on women’s healthcare, in a room filled entirely with old white men. I found the irony amusing, that I too would be an old white man one day –  here I was writing a song questioning the legacy of a group I would eventually, inevitably, belong to. Queue zombie satire, obviously.

"For the video, I wanted something that would help people digest the constant deluge of weird imagery in the song. I fancied giving cell animation a go, so spent three weeks locked in my room drawing hundreds of pictures, charging through Zeta pads and Artline pens, as well as watching all four seasons of Bojack Horseman on Netflix."

'I've Been Bitten By An Old White Man' is from Tom's latest album Template For Love, which was recorded at Ben Edwards' Lyttleton studio (Marlon Williams, Tami Neilson, Delaney Davidson, Aldous Harding, Nadia Reid). Tom is an accomplished solo artist and has toured with the likes of French For Rabbits and Reb Fountain. The London-born, Auckland-based musician describes himself as 'savaging the folk tradition with Twitter-ravaged millennial vocabulary'.
