The two bands will play shows in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland in a short one-off tour, starting in late November.

The tour follows an unexpected show featuring both the Straitjacket Fits and Dimmer, held at the Kings Arms earlier this year to mark the venue's closure.

The tour will be the first for Straitjacket Fits since a reformation tour in 2005 and the first in five years for Dimmer.

The Fits line-up will see Carter joined by drummer John Collie, guitarist Mark Petersen, with Dimmer members James Duncan and Vaughan Williams filling in for original bassist David Wood, who died in 2010.

Drummer Gary Sullivan will then join Carter, Williams and Duncan for the Dimmer set.

Straitjacket Fits were formed in Dunedin in the mid-1980s, producing singles such as 'She Speeds' and 'If I Were You'. Carter then formed Dimmer in the mid-1990s and released four albums before wrapping the band up in 2012.

Carter said while it was a career retrospective, the forthcoming tour was "mainly an opportunity to play some badass rock n roll with my mates".
