VIDEO PREMIERE: Alae perform 'Home' live at Golden Dawn

From RNZ Music, 7:55 am on 10 December 2018

Folk-inspired four-piece Alae managed to sneak into the now-closed Auckland venue Golden Dawn one last time, to fil a special version of their single 'Home'.

Alae just wrapped up a five-date national tour after launching their debut album Henry Street in October.

The group started out as multi-instrumental two-piece Alex Farrell-Davey and Allister Meffan, and now includes drummer Jayden Lee and bassist Marika Hodgson, who just released her own debut single under the moniker Sorrento.

'Home' is about being comfortable with who you are, so you can get through life's challenges. Its original video follows two escaped prisoners who spend the night at one of the convicts' homes. While one is reunited with his boyfriend and baby, the other can’t help but feel even more isolated and lonely. Its director Dominic Antelme says, "We set about breaking some pretty big stereotypes – and just like the song itself – offer an alternative take on masculinity, love and family.”

Further Alae live dates are coming together for 2019, with the group set to perform at Lifeline’s not-for-profit music festival for mental health River Sounds on January 4, as well as a slot at Wellington’s iconic Homegrown Festival on March 23.

Henry St is out now through Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music and available on vinyl through Bandcamp and some retail outlets.
