VIDEO PREMIERE: Missy ‘Storm’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 26 February 2019

RNZ Music is excited to share the brand new single and video 'Storm', from Dunedin born producer and performing artist Missy.

‘Storm’ is the second single from Missy, aka Abigail Knudson, who released her debut single ‘Hate Me’ in October.

The self-taught producer is also building a name for herself behind the desk, currently working with a number of artists including Anna Coddington, Sam Trevethick (Shapeshifter), Justyn Pilbrow (Elemeno P), and Unchained XL, to name a few.

Earlier this year, Missy spoke at the APRA AMCOS Women of Music Production workshop. She was also involved in the NZ Music Producer series with Sylvia Massy in November, as well as SongHubs Sphere for Suffrage 125.

For the Songhubs workshop, Missy worked alongside other female songwriters and musicians including Bic Runga, Chelsea Jade and Amelia Murray (Fazerdaze), under the guidance of veteran producer Susan Rogers, and Wendy Wang of The Bird and the Bee.

Missy is classically trained and blends years of formal training in cello and choral studies with contemporary production and composition methods.

She sites Johannes Brahms, Lana Del Rey and Kanye West as influences.

Missy on ‘Storm’: “I decided to avoid depicting the main toxic relationship discussed in the song, and instead focus on the internal struggle … Specifically, the struggle for self-love and acceptance, and the effect they has on the types of relationships and partners people are drawn to.”

To translate the song to screen, Missy enlisted the help of her sisters Calla Knudson-Hollebon and Ariana Knudson-Hollebon, as well as Bebe James to choreograph a routine. The vid was shot by Jamie Prout.
