VIDEO PREMIERE: Claudia Jardine ‘Hide’

From RNZ Music, 10:00 am on 3 May 2019

RNZ Music is proud to present the debut single and video from Wellington-based folk-pop songwriter Claudia Jardine… starring a cute pug called Frank.

‘Hide’ is the first single from Claudia’s five-track debut North EP, which is out on May 3rd.

Claudia has been playing live since 2011 and has already collected national awards for songwriting from Smokefreerockquest and Battle of the Bands. She’s also supported acts including Doprah and Nadia Reid.

The video for ‘Hide’ is directed by Ōtautahi (Christchurch) filmmaker Martin Sagadin, who’s made a bunch of beautifully crafted videos for artists including Tiny Ruins, Marlon Williams and Aldous Harding.

Claudia and Martin took inspiration from Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, which is partly set in a Scout camp. They even made their own D.I.Y. “grub scouts” badges.

The video was filmed in Claudia’s parents’ backyard in Ōtautahi. Cute pug dog Frank ‘The Tongue’ was awarded the lead role after “submitting an audition tape of a poorly executed barrel roll”.

Older doggo Cilla noticed there were dog treats on offer and decided to get involved. Even the cat, Ragnar, got stuck in.

Alongside Claudia’s songwriting, she’s an MA candidate studying Anna Komnene and Byzantine historiography at Victoria University.
