Digital forensics professor at UC Berkeley and senior advisor at the Counter Extremism Project, Dr Hany Farid, says Facebook's response to the Christchurch mosque shootings is "inexcusable". The Counter Extremism Project is an NGO and international policy organization formed to combat the growing threat from extremist ideologies. Dr Farid worked for Microsoft 10 years ago to create Photo DNA, a tool that tech giants rely on to fingerprint digital content used to prevent the upload of photos and videos that depict child sexual abuse. He says the fact that the likes of Facebook and Google have not invested in refining and improving that technology to deal with the live streaming of harmful content such as the mosque shootings is a disgrace.
