They call it the Cauldron of South African rugby, Ellis Park in Johannesburg, and this morning the All Blacks faced the Springboks in their second Rugby Championship clash of 2022.

Marc Hinton is kindly joining us from Johannesburg as the evening gets late for him. Marc's written for The Times and The Independent on Sunday in the UK, he's a former editor of NZ Rugby World and now a senior sports writer for Stuff.

Philip Short's book is big, six centimetres thick, but its subject matter is big, too. It's Putin - His Life and Times. Philip is a British journalist and author. He studied at Queens' College, Cambridge, became a freelance correspondent for a number of years in Africa and then a foreign correspondent for the BBC for a quarter of a century. He's also written biographies of Mao Zedong, Pol Pot and François Mitterrand. PUTIN is being met by the critics with a good degree of acclaim. Philip Short talks to Jim about his latest work.

9:37 Richard E Grant coming to NZ, he talks to Jim 

The actor Richard E Grant is bringing his stage show to New Zealand later this year - An Evening With Richard E. Grant.

He'll be talking about his life and times and well-known roles, and also about his new memoir about to be released - A Pocketful Of  Happiness. That title comes courtesy of his wife Joan, who died last year. She was prominent as well, she was a voice coach and had friendships with many famous people, acting royalty and actual royalty. Theirs was a very close marriage lasting 40 years.

Dr Matthew O. Jackson is a Professor of Economics at Stanford. His research areas include the study of social as well as economic networks, and we'll talk about both. He's the author of The Human Network: How Your Social Position Determines Your Power, Beliefs, and Behaviors".

Dr Jackson talks to Jim about the research which concluded that having wealthy friends in childhood boosts your income when you grow up.

It's Elvis Week in Memphis, running till this coming Thursday New Zealand time. 

Elvis Week 2022 marks the 45th anniversary of Elvis' death.

Angie Marchese is in charge of the Graceland archives. She's been there for more than 30 years. She designs all the exhibits, she is in charge of Elvis' memory.

She talks to Jim about keeping the memories alive and why Elvis, 45 years after his death, still can sell out tours!

20 million albums sold, a lot of kiwis owned one called 'Diesel & Dust", but for the Aussie band Midnight Oil it was always an environmental message they were selling as well, and better treatment of Australia's indigenous population.

11.30 Professor Elina Hypponen on new alzheimer's research 

There's new research out of the University of South Australia, and Professor Elina Hypponen is the Director of that university's Australian Centre for Precision Health. She has spoken to Jim before about  aspects of being overweight, and how cardio health influences coffee consumption. 

This week Professor Hypponen talks to Jim about vitamin D and calcium supplements and any links it has to alzheimer's - a query that has come from our listeners.

11.45 David Gray and his 20th Anniversary tour down under

Irish singer David Gray will soon be touring his most famous album - White Ladder: The 20th Anniversary Tour in Christchurch, Wellington and Auckland. Large venues too. White Ladder was his blockbuster album, one of the most successful of the 21st century so far

White Ladder became the most popular album in Irish history, it still is, 20 times platinum, every house it was said had a copy, and outside Ireland it slowly at first and then suddenly sold into the millions. 

David Gray talks to Jim about the album, it's endurance and his tour.
