Worlds of Music: Buddy Guy

From Worlds of Music, 2:00 pm on 28 July 2018

American blues legend Buddy Guy celebrates his 82nd birthday this week. Trevor Reekie looks back at a charming 2006 interview with the musician Eric Clapton once described as "the best guitar player alive".

Born on a sharecropper’s farm in Louisiana, Buddy taught himself guitar and relocated to Chicago as a young man.

He went on to carve out a reputation for himself playing at South Side bars and guitar 'battles', recording for Chess Records and playing with all the great musicians of the era, including Junior Wells, Howling Wolf and Muddy Waters.

Buddy Guy continues to influence a who’s who of guitarists that included Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn and many others.

A consummate showman with an arsenal of crowd-pleasing moves, Buddy is still out there keeping the blues alive.
