New Zealanders named in Forbes' 30-under-30 rankings

Forbes Magazine has named two young New Zealanders in its annual "30 under 30" rankings - designed to showcase 30 people under the age of 30 the world needs to watch.

Jake Millar and Yuuki Ogino, both 23-year-olds from Christchurch, are included in the education category for their startup Unfiltered.

Unfiltered is described as a 'global education platform democratising the knowledge and wisdom of the world's most successful business leaders'.

Sir Richard Branson, Rocket Lab founder Peter Beck, former All White and All Birds founder Tim Brown, Karen Walker, Sir John Key and Sir Michael Hill are just some of the people interviewed for Unfiltered.

Mr Millar told Morning Report it came as a surprise to be included in the list.

"It was pretty surreal because we have spent a lot of time combing through the 30 under 30 ourselves over the years and trying to work out who to interview next.

"It was pretty cool news to wake up to," he said.

On top of the video and podcast series, Mr Millar's company also runs Unfiltered Live, an event series that hosts 750 people in a full day live experience in Auckland.

Mr Millar, who is originally from the West Coast, first created the careers advice platform Oompher after graduating from Christchurch Boys' High School.

He interviewed 150 of the top New Zealanders in a range of industries, from arts to sports to politics to music, to create a new form of career advice which he then sold to the government in 2015.

Mr Millar said he's got big ambitions for the future as his company plans to move into a business-to-business platform which involves selling subscriptions to companies throughout the world.

On top of that Mr Millar said he's about to head to America for the next phase of filming.

'We've got a huge filming tour coming up in January. Interviewing the founders of Tinder, Hootsuite, Rick Caruso who's just been called the Walt Disney of retail so a really exciting time coming up."
