Air New Zealand plans to restart direct flights to Bali in March, with a seasonal service running until the end of October next year.

The national carrier said the Indonesian island remains one of the most popular overseas holiday destinations for New Zealanders who want to head somewhere warm during winter.

A 787-9 Dreamliner will fly the route three between Auckland and Denpasar three times a week, from 29 March until 27 October, a window planned to include the school holidays in April, July and October.

Air NZ chief sales officer Leanne Geraghty said Bali was one of the most searched destinations on their website, and they expect demand to be high.

"We first flew to Bali in 2012. Our last flight was in 2019 when we flew around 17,000 customers. It's awesome to be back offering non-stop services and give Kiwis direct access a tropical paradise,"

The airline said their plans to restart the seasonal service would depend on regulatory approval.
