Mountain biking big chance on Commonwealth Games day 8

New Zealand has a big chance to medal in the mountain bike cross country this afternoon.

Wednesday saw only one medal, Tasmyn Benny became the first New Zealand woman to win a boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games.

New Zealand currently sits at at fifth on the medal table - Behind Australia, England, India and South Africa.

In the mountain biking, New Zealand could dominate the medals: Anton Cooper is the defending champion and Sam Gaze the silver medallist from Glasgow.

In athletics, Dame Valerie Adams has her qualifying round in the shotput this afternoon. Nick Southgate also competes in the men's pole vault.

There are New Zealanders in finals today in shooting, wrestling and diving. And the New Zealand women's hockey team meet England in the semi-final tonight.

Liam Stone and Anton Down-Jenkins compete in the 3m springboard diving, the squash doubles continue, including medallists Joelle King and Paul Coll.

The men's beach volleyball team play England for a bronze medal, and the para bowls triples team plays for a gold.
