Police in Invercargill are investigating a fire at a block of flats early this morning that left one man dead.
Emergency services were alerted the fire on Tramway Rd just after 1am.
Police said the dead man was believed to be known to the occupant of one of the flats, which was engulfed in flames.
They cannot confirm the man's identity until a post-mortem is complete, but said they were speaking to the likely next of kin.
Fire safety officers and police detectives have started a scene examination.
