A 48-year-old man was found dead in his Waikato home on Saturday afternoon.
A scene examination has been completed and a post mortem examination took place in Auckland yesterday.
Police say they are treating the death as suspicious and are trying to piece together what happened.
"Friends and family are very upset about this incident and are being supported by police and victim support," police said in a statement.
