Twenty-nine-year-old painter Faapaia Fonoilaepa was killed in Taita on Friday night following an altercation.

Police have found a woman who was walking along the street at the time and she is assisting them with their inquiries.

They still want to speak to a man who was seen leaving the area in a silver station wagon, which was later found on Pringle Street.

He is described as Māori, of solid build with dark curly hair and facial tattoos, aged between 30 and 40.

Police believe he may have been assaulted and may have noticeable facial injuries.
