A man tried to abduct a female jogger at the entrance to Ray Blank Park on Maidstone Road, Ilam, just before 6am on Friday morning.

The woman fought off the man, with a person driving past stopping to help her.

The passerby then followed the attacker to a nearby street where police later found him.

A 27-year-old has been arrested and charged with abduction and assault with intent to injure.

Police are still keen to speak to the person who stopped to help.

The arrested man was remanded in custody and will appear in court next month.
