One person has died after a serious crash on State Highway 3 in Awakino, Waitomo.
Two people received serious injuries and two others moderate injuries in a two-vehicle crash at 6.17pm.
The Serious Crash Unit are at the scene and assisting with an examination.
Helicopters were dispatched from New Plymouth and Hamilton.
NZTA are advising motorists to avoid the area as the highway has been shut at both ends of Papakauri Road.
