Treik Allen, 20, is facing two charges of using a pistol to prevent another man being arrested, although police said the pistol was an imitation firearm and the charges will be clarified at the defendent's next court appearance.

He was remanded without plea this morning until his next hearing later this month.

Following his arrest in a Christchurch suburb yesterday afternoon, the order to arm all police was lifted.

The order was imposed on Thursday after shots were fired at the police in three locations over a number of days.

The charges relate to one of the incidents, on Anzac Drive, last weekend.
