In a statement, the ministry said two previous cases had recovered, and the number of active cases was 20 with one previously confirmed case reclassified as under investigation.

Total confirmed cases is 2363. The seven-day rolling average of new cases detected at the border is one. Since 1 January 2021, there have been 76 historical cases, out of a total of 547 cases.

Laboratories processed 2857 tests yesterday, bringing the seven-day rolling average to 4207.

The ministry said quarantine-free travel with New South Wales remained in place, with 11 community cases having been found in Sydney since last week, all linked to each other. The ministry announced last night that quarantine-free travel with Queensland would resume from 11.59pm tonight.

Queensland public health authorities on Sunday announced a new community case in an air crew worker, but the ministry said officials assessed the risk to New Zealand as low.

Anyone who was at Brisbane Airport at DFO outlet shop between 4pm and 4.30pm, or the Brisbane Portuguese Family Centre from 7pm onwards on Saturday 19 June must contact Healthline, get tested and stay home until they receive a negative result.

Some 16 contacts had been identified in New Zealand as being at locations of interest in Sydney.

Five would be required to isolate for 14 days and be tested twice in that time, and all had returned a negative first test. A further 11 would be required to self-isolate until they return a negative day-five test. Of those, eight had returned a negative test and three were outstanding.

Yesterday, the ministry announced three new cases of Covid-19 in managed isolation.

Meanwhile, Medsafe has given the all-clear for New Zealanders as young as 12 to receive the Pfizer vaccine, conditional on the pharmaceutical company continuing to provide data from its clinical trials.

Epidemiologist Michael Baker told Morning Report vaccinating children against Covid-19 will boost chances of reaching herd immunity.
