Hundreds more schools and centres dealing with Covid-19 cases

The Education Ministry says 717 schools and early learning centres are managing Covid-19 cases, up from 447 on Monday.

It said more than half the schools in Auckland were now affected.

The ministry said the schools and early childhood services it was working with were dealing with 2087 active cases, including 1736 children and 238 teachers.

The ministry said nationally, 22 percent of schools were now affected by Covid-19 and more than half of the sites it was supporting were primary schools.

Auckland schools and centres were most affected by the pandemic, with 445 managing cases.

The ministry said the figures were based on the schools and early learning services it was supporting as at 10.30am on Thursday.

It said the numbers were a snapshot and were not definitive.
