A pedestrian injured in a hit-and-run in Wellington in June has died.

Two pedestrians were hit by a car on Cable Street in the CBD about midnight on 18 June.

The car fled the scene but was later found on Evans Bay Parade.

One pedestrian was in a serious condition, and the other - in a critical condition - died in hospital on 5 July.

A 23-year-old man was initially charged with being over the alcohol limit, failing to stop and check for injuries after the crash and driving while suspended.

But police said further charges were now likely.
