A person has been found dead inside a house that caught fire in Whitianga.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze on Cholmondeley Crescent at 5.20pm on Sunday, police said on Monday.
"Tragically a person was located deceased inside the building."
Police and fire investigators would be looking into the cause on Monday
. A scene guard was in place overnight.
