Two killed, four injured in Te Kuiti crash

Two people have been killed and four people injured in a car crash in Te Kuiti, Waikato this afternoon.

Two cars collided on State Highway Three about 2.10pm. police said.

A driver and front-seat passenger of a car travelling north were killed. Two rear-seat passengers in the same car were seriously injured and were flown to Waikato Hospital in a rescue helicopter.

Two occupants in the other south-bound car received moderate injuries and were also taken to Waikato Hospital.

The Fire Service said two people were found dead on arrival and fire fighters freed one person trapped in a car.

The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating the crash which occurred approximately 250 meters north of the 70km/hr posted speed area.

A vehicle was travelling directly behind the north-bound car and would have witnessed the crash, Senior Sergeant Mike Underwood of the Waikato District Command Centre said.

Police want to speak to the occupants of the car, he said.
