The All Black Sevens have suffered a major setback ahead of the Hong Kong leg of the world series which starts tonight, with captain Scott Curry ruled out with the flu.

Veteran DJ Forbes will take over the captaincy while Sam Dickson replaces Curry in the 12 strong squad.

"It's always a big loss losing your captain so close to kick-off but on the positive side....Sam Dickson is a more than adequate replacement," said head coach Scott Waldrom.

New Zealand currently sit fourth in the overall standings and sit in a tough pool, with their first match against Wales at 11.30pm tonight.

They will also play Japan and Fiji in the opening round.
