The previous highest score was by Australia's Belinda Clark who scored 229 not out against Denmark in 1997 and she is the youngest double centurion in all international cricket.

Kerr wasn't even born when Clark set that mark. She concedes she hadn't heard of the previous record holder until today and said she was only half aware of her own feats as she set the new mark.

"No I had no idea... I think I heard the ground announcers say stuff on the loud speakers but I couldn't hear them because everyone was clapping. I hadn't heard of her (Clark) but I've heard now from the team so haha. I had 152 against Otago at under 21's a few years ago so this is comfortably my highest score."

Kerr was also involved in the second-highest partnership in women's ODI cricket, as she and Otago all-rounder Leigh Kasperek (113) piled on 285-runs for the second-wicket.

Kerr also returned her best international bowling figures taking 5-17 from seven overs with her legspin as Ireland were dismissed for 133.

"It's pretty surreal. I had to work hard at the start but once I got through that I got going a bit. Then I had a good partnership with Leigh which allowed me to play the way that I wanted to play and to hit boundaries when we got to the power plays," she said.

White Ferns coach Haidee Tiffen described Kerr's innings as incredible.

"At 17 years old to show the range of shots and concentration ... and to break a 20 year record it outstanding," she said.

Her innings at Clontarf Cricket Club was the second-highest in all women's formats and is only bettered by two knocks in men's ODIs
