After winning the toss and deciding to bat first Pakistan scored 279 for eight with Babar Azam making 92, Fakhar Zaman 65 and Haris Sohail 60.

Lockie Ferguson took his first five wicket haul in ODI's finishing with five for 45 from his ten overs.

New Zealand got through to 35 for one in the seventh over when the rain started.

Colin Munro was dismissed for no score, while George Worker was on 18 and Henry Nicholls 15.

Captain Kane Williamson didn't play because of a slight groin strain.

Ferguson was pleased with his effort today.

"I was happy with the way I performed with the ball. Unfortunate, we could not get a result."

"Pace is my strength and I'm not a huge swinger. On these wickets, with variable bounce hitting a hard length is tougher. I am just working game-by-game and it's nice to have a successful fast-bowling group."

The two sides now head into a three-Test series with the first match in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
