Cricket: Rebuild for White Ferns needed

The White Ferns need to take their game to a new level if they are to be competitive on the international stage says captain captain Amy Satterthwaite.

New Zealand were all but eliminated from the women's Twenty20 cricket world cup in the Carribean on Wednesday after they lost their second successive pool match going down to Australia by 33 runs.

The White Ferns were shown up in all three facets of the game, battting, bowling and fielding, at times during the match and Satterthwaite.

"We have got some really talented players but we are not getting the performances out of them that we'd like...but it's also about creating depth which will put pressure on the players in the side."

New Zealand dropped crucial catches during the match including Australia's half-century make Alyssa Healy who made 53 when she was on 11.

Their bowling was also inconsistent, being too short and wide, on the slow Guyana wickets while only Susie Bates (48) was again the backbone of the New Zealand batting lineup.

Satterthwaite said it's frustrating to see their standards slip.

"Throughout my career we have been really competitve with Australia so to feel like we are slipping a little bit is certainly frustrating but we've got to keep having the belief that we can win on our day and like I say we have talented players and if we can performances out of them....then we can be a team that can beat (top) sides."

New Zealand have now lost their last seven T20 matches.
