Venus and South African Raven Klassen were beaten in the ASB Classic final on Saturday.

They'll play American Bradley Klahn and Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan first up in Melbourne.

If successful they could meet fellow New Zealander Marcus Daniell and his partner Wesley Koolhof of the Netherlands in the second round.

Daniell and Koolhof will play the Australian wildcard pairing of Lleyton Hewitt and John-Patrick Smith in the first round.

The third New Zealander in the men's doubles Artem Sitak and his partner Austin Krajicek of the United States play Indian veteran Leander Paes and Miguel Reyes-Varela of Mexico.

ASB Classic champions Ben McLaughlin of Japan and Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany are seeded eighth.

The top seeds and defending champions are Oliver Marach of Austria and Mate Pavic of Croatia.
