The Crusders scored five first-half tries and led 33-7 at halftime.

Braydon Ennor, Sevu Reece, Andrew Makalio and Michael Ala'alatoa also crossed for the nine-times champions, who surpassed their previous highest score against the Chiefs.

They beat the Hamilton-based side 50-18 in 2005.

Taleni Seu, Etene Nanai-Seturo, Jack Debrezcini and Mitchell Brown scored tries for the Chiefs, who have now lost all four of their games this season.

The Crusaders again top the New Zealand Super Rugby conference with 17 points, four clear of the second-placed Hurricanes.
