The Black Ferns Sevens and All Blacks Sevens both cruised to victory on their opening group matches on day one of the world series event in Vancouver.

Leaders in the respective men's and women's series, both side showed why against relatively low ranked opposition, with the Black Ferns Sevens particularly impressive in racking up 17 tries.

The women put an inexperienced Colombia side to the sword - winning 60-0, including a first-half hat-trick to Michaela Blyde - before outclassing Great Britain 43-7.

Halfback Tyla Nathan-Wong was influential in both games, having become the second Black Fern after Sarah Hirini to play in a 50th tournament.

The All Blacks Sevens opened with a surprisingly-easy 52-0 drubbing of the United States before making harder work of a 17-7 defeat of Spain, which featured a double to the impressive Moses Leo.

Both New Zealand teams are guaranteed quarter-final qualification, regardless the results of their final group games against Samoa (men) and Fiji (women).
