The Wairoa Māori Film Festival was hosted in Denver, Colorado recently at the Festival of Native Dreaming, where a number of short Māori films were shown.

But the director, Leo Koziol, said besides receiving great feedback about those films, native kai and the benefits of it has been the main distraction.

He said he wanted to use the Wairoa Māori Film Festival to promote indigenous kai.

Speaking from Toronto, Mr Koziol said indigenous gastromy seemed to be the flavour of the month in North America and even fast food service restaurants were now serving native kai.
