Kia mate ā Ururoa reveals the story of Whirinaki-born Harding Waipuke Leaf, a soldier who served in both world wars and was awarded the Military Cross for bravery.

He was a decorated soldier from World War I who fought at Gallipoli.

He was 49 when he enlisted for World War II, and went to war despite the pleas of many of his community of Whirinaki and Hokianga to stay home.

His weapons are now taonga at the Waitangi museum.

His granddaughter Helen Leaf, and great granddaughter Nicole Anderson recount the stories of their famous ancestor.
