Now the MetService long range forecast for all New Zealand to midnight Saturday
The Situation
A ridge over Aotearoa/New Zealand is receding to the North Island on Wednesday. A cold front is crossing the Tasman Sea during Wednesday, and is forecast to spread onto Fiordland on Wednesday night. The front is preceded by a strengthening northerly flow.
Looking at the weather to midnight tomorrow
Northland
Partly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly in the east.
Auckland to Taumarunui, including Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo
Fine weather, but areas of morning and evening cloud tomorrow.
Whanganui and Taihape to Horowhenua Kapiti Coast
Partly cloudy. Isolated showers developing tomorrow evening.
Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa and Wellington
Fine, but cloud increasing for Wellington tomorrow evening.
Nelson, Marlborough, Canterbury and Otago
Mainly fine, but increasing high cloud about Canterbury and Otago tomorrow.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland
Showers about Fiordland, spreading north to southern Westland this afternoon and elsewhere tomorrow. Turning to periods of heavy rain in Fiordland tomorrow evening.
Southland
Cloudy periods. A few showers about the coast and Stewart Island, clearing tomorrow.
Chatham Islands
A few showers clearing tomorrow morning, but cloudy periods remain.

Thursday
North Island: Mainly fine from Gisborne to Wairarapa. Scattered showers elsewhere, turning to rain about Waitomo and North Taranaki at night. South Island: Rain in the west, with some heavy falls. Scattered showers elsewhere, but dry from Christchurch to Kaikoura Coast. Snow lowering to 700 metres in the far south late. Severe gale northwesterlies in exposed places, easing.
Friday
North Island: Rain or showers, easing later. South Island: Rain or showers in the west and south, easing. Snow to 600 metres in the far south at first. Partly cloudy with scattered showers elsewhere, easing late.
Saturday
North Island: Scattered showers clearing the most, but isolated showers lingering in the west from Taranaki northwards. South Island: Scattered showers becoming confined to Fiordland and Southland.
And at the Chathams
Partly cloudy on Thursday. Rain developing Friday, easing to a few showers Saturday. Northwesterlies changing southwesterlies overnight Friday.
