Photo essay: Israel declares war after attack by Hamas

Hundreds of people are dead and more than 1000 injured after the Palestinian Islamic group Hamas launched an attack on Israel.

Israel has since declared a war, fighting back against Gaza, with hundreds already killed in retaliatory attacks..

Leaders across the world had condemned Hamas' attack, supporting Israel in its right to defend itself.

New Zealand's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nanaia Mahuta, has called for the "immediate cessation" of violence.
