The Rising Road was inspired by a life-changing decision taken in 1912 by the writer`s Irish grandmother. `The drama and romance of her choice, recounted in our own Irish family lore, appealed enormously.` The story forms part of a novel entitled Whispering City, set in Ireland and Greece, to be published in Greek in 2019 by Kedros Publishing.

Rachel O’Connor was born and raised in Christchurch in a large and eccentric book-loving family, and is a citizen of the USA, Ireland and New Zealand. After living and working in Europe for more than two decades, Rachel returned to New Zealand with her Greek husband and children to take up a scholarship and complete a Masters of Creative Writing at the University of University.
