Eliza Carthy is from British folk music royalty - the daughter of Norma Waterson and Martin Carthy.
William Dart admits that it's a task and a half keeping up with her – an English traditional folk singer with little respect for barriers and borders.
After a quick look at some recent collaborations she's been involved with – Dave Soldier's provocative album based on the writings of Jonathan Swift, and Bottle, her album with American folkie Tim Eriksen – he turns his attention to her latest release.
For Big Machine, she's joined by her big touring outfit of 11 musicians, The Wayward Band.
William says, "This is music guaranteed to hypnotise if you let yourself fall into it, accepting the marvellous way that Carthy almost teases a vocal line around the band, [who are] not afraid to musically shout and even scream between moments of real tenderness."
