A two-part report published last month explores Pacific peoples experiences with the criminal justice system in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

It specifically looks at the issue of overrepresentation and what individual, structural and cultural determinants contribute to this phenomenon.

More broadly the research aims to capture the experiences of Pacific peoples in the CJS both as offenders and victims, as well as those working in the system.

The report's lead author, Litia Tuiburelevu says the first-hand accounts of individuals who took part in the research reveals how the system is "institutionally racist and fundamentally broken".
