Bin clean up in Hawkes Bay

From Afternoons, 1:15 pm on 26 January 2024

Lots of one year anniversaries on the horizon right now that are marking some devastating events around the motu.

Obviously here in Auckland we're one year since the torrential rain caused so many problems and cost lives across the city and suburbs.

Then in Hawkes Bay coming up and in Muriwai, Tairāwhiti, it'll be a year since the devastating impact of cyclone Gabrielle hit.

But as always, in the face of adversity, people rise up overcome obstacles and get on with it.

Andrew Cranswick is part of a very practical project in Hawkes Bay, retrieving, repairing and sanitising some of the horticultural bins that were washed around the area.

He's with  Tumu timbers, and leading the bin clean up operation.
