Police Association boss backs police response at Parliament

Police Association boss Chris Cahill says he agrees with the police's decision-making on the Parliament protest.

"I certainly know from Wellingtonian point of view, they'll be frustrated, but we have to look at it from two things. One is the police can only use a reasonable amount of force in the circumstances. And the reality is, most of the protesters are not committing physical violence.

"So the limited amount of force police could use won't resolve that.

"And then the second is, how much force New Zealanders actually tolerate and what would be acceptable in some countries certain wouldn't be here. So police weigh all that up. They don't think they can resolve it by using any physical force to remove them, and I have to agree."
