Quarter of AK character homes replaced in intensification

A quarter of homes in Auckland's 'special character areas' could be rezoned for intensification - meaning apartments and townhouses popping up near urban centres to help with the city's housing crisis. Public consultation has now opened on the Auckland Council plan, which is its response to planning rules implemented by central government. It would mean around 5000 of the city's 21,000 character homes becoming available for development. And judging by some of the social media feedback, LOTS of people are none too happy about the prospect of multi-story housing popping up next door.
