Stolen pounamu returned to rightful owners

From Five O'clock Report, 5:23 pm on 15 January 2020

A treasured pounamu carving has been tracked down by police and returned to its rightful owners.

The water-droplet sculpture, carved from one of the largest greenstone boulders ever found in the South Island, was stolen from Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa complex on Saturday.

But police have safely retrived the pounamu and charged a 34-year-old man in relation to the burglary.

The pools general manager Graeme Abbot spoke to Kim Savage about how staff responded to the return of the sculpture.
